What we do

Technology

Currently we are developing two technologies:

  • brain-wave analysis (EEG signal)
  • computer image recognition, including "Augmented Reality" and "Motion Capture" techonologies

Currently, each of our projects exploits one of these technologies. But, in the future, we want to bring together these and other technologies and employ them in education, rehabilitation, marketing, scientific research and other domains.

Applications

At present we are working on several projects done in cooperation with renowned scientific and public institutions:

  • software engineering for rehabilitation of intellectually disabled people
  • software engineering for rehabilitation of physically disabled people
  • software engineering for children active education
  • interactive educational books
  • research and software development concerning brain-computer interfaces
  • research concerning emotional reactions of organisms

EEG and brain-computer interfaces

What is it all about

EEG signal (or so-called brain-waves) is an electrical signal generated by the human brain. Using specialized devices we are able to receive and analyse it on the surface of the head, real-time. For many years this examination was done only for medical diagnosis reasons. However, mainly owing to technology development, more and more interdisciplinary scientific research using EEG has been conducted.

As the result of this research, we now know that the EEG signal gives us a lot of information about the present state of somebody's mind. We are now able to tell their mood, level of stress, reaction to stimuli intensity and even intention to move their hand!

Such opportunities have paved the way for creating solutions which may lead to a new era of technological developments. These include brain-computer interfaces – software engineering which makes it possible to use a computer only by changing one's own brain activity, e.g. by imagining moving one's hand or by focusing one's attention on a certain part of a computer screen.

Impossible? On the contrary. A number of research centers in the world already own brain-computer interfaces which are used among the disabled. Titanis takes part in such a project in Poland. It is coordinated by the Department of Biomedical Physics at the Warsaw University Faculty of Physics.

Our activities

Since 2009 we have actively participated in developing OpenBCI and Svarog projects initiated at the Department of Biomedical Physics at the Warsaw University Faculty of Physics. These projects not only concern brain-computer interfaces, but also broader EEG signal subject-matter, such as acquisition, analysis and conduct of the scientific research.

Since 2010, together with a research team from the Faculty of Psychology at Warsaw University, we have conducted research about unconscious emotional reactions and provided invaluable resource.

Computer image analysis

What is it all about

In our solutions we use the "Motion Capture" and "Augmented Reality" technologies together with a common webcam.

"Motion Capture" allows to detect motion in the webcam frame and track moving objects. We use it to enhance human-computer interaction.

"Augmented Reality" is technology which allows to add graphics and 3D animations to a webcam image. This makes an impression of a virtual mirror in which, apart from the "real" objects or people, there also appear "virtual" or cartoon objects.

Our activities

Soon, we are going to launch the first series of software for aiding children education and the rehabilitation of intellectually and physically disabled. We are also developing a prototype of an interactive educational book.

These projects are carried out together with experts in the fields: psychotherapists, rehabilitation centers and scientific centers. These include: National Residence of Rehabilitation for People with Multiple Sclerose Disease, Department of Physiotherapy at the Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Chair of Physical Culture of Disabled People at the University School of Physical Education in Poznan.
